DCP Fire Extinguisher

A DCP fire extinguisher (Dry Chemical Powder) is a type of fire extinguisher that uses a dry chemical powder as an extinguishing agent. This powder is typically a mixture of monoammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate. When the powder is released from the extinguisher, it creates a cloud of fine powder that smothers the fire, cutting off the oxygen supply and preventing the fire from spreading.

Dry chemical powder is used on all classes of fires. Dry chemical powder puts out the fire by coating the burning material with a thin layer of dust, thereby separating the fuel from the oxygen in the air. The powder also works to interrupt the chemical reaction of fire, so these extinguishers are extremely effective at putting out the fire. Pressure is generated by gas cartridges stored inside the cylinder. Its force will last for 45 seconds and can reach 3–4.5 metres (10–15 ft).

This fire extinguisher is diversely utilized because it is capable of extinguishing many classes of fire.

There are different names for DCP Fire Extinguishers like ABC, ABE and BE fire extinguishers. These are named differently because they are effective on the respective classes of fire as mentioned in their name. DCP  extinguishers have another benefit of cost-effectiveness for their users.

DCP Fire Extinguisher Effectiveness

A, B, C, E, and F are the classes of fire on which DCP  extinguishers can be utilized. It shows that this fire extinguisher is not suitable just for one class of fire, and all other classes of fire can be suppressed with a DCP  extinguisher.

What is DCP powder:

The components of DCP dry chemical powder are Ammonium Sulphate and Mono Ammonium Phosphate. To distinguish DCP dry chemical powder from other fire extinguishers a white-colored label is given to its cylinder.

Where to use a DCP Fire Extinguisher:

DCP fire extinguishers are worthy of installation at the following places:

ABC Type:

ABC type DCP  extinguisher is capable of extinguishing class A, B and C of fire.

Fire of Class A:

The material like paper, clothes, or persons is classified as Class A fire.

Fire of class B:

The liquids like petrol, oil, and diesel is classified as Class B fire.

Fire of Class E:

The fire on electrical equipment is classified as a class E fire.

BEF Types:

Fire of class B:

The liquids like petrol, oil, and diesel are classified as Class B fires.

Fire of Class E:

The fire on electrical equipment is classified as a class E fire.

Fire of Class F:

The fire on cooking oil is a Class F fire.

Fire Extinguisher Types and Classes

The six main fire extinguisher types are Water, AFFF (foam), Carbon DioxideCO2Dry Chemical Powder(DCP), Water Mist and Wet Chemical.

Each of the different types of fire extinguisher is suitable for different fire classes. It is important that you purchase the right fire extinguisher for your needs.

What Is the Difference Between ABC Fire Extinguishers And DCP Fire Extinguishers?

The DCP fire extinguisher contains dry chemical powder in it to extinguishing the fire, and it is further divided into two types i.e, DCP BC Type and ABC Type Fire Extinguisher.

Working Principle of DCP fire extinguisher:

There are three components of the fire triangle fuel, oxygen, and heat. Whenever any fire extinguisher is used for suppressing the Fire, it cut off any one element of the fire triangle to stop the fire. The DCP extinguisher cuts off the oxygen supply from the environment for suppressing the fire.

Advantages of DCP fire extinguisher:

There are certain advantages of DCP Fire extinguisher which are as follows:

1- Except for one class of fire, the DCP extinguisher is effective to extinguish all classes of fire.

2- They have the extreme power to suppress the fire.

3- They are comparatively compact in size than the other fire extinguishers.

4- They are avialable at cheap prices.

5- They are able to extinguish the fires in larger areas.

6- They are available in different sizes, rates, and shapes.

7- They are safe to use on electrical equipment fires.

Drawbacks of DCP fire extinguisher:

DCP extinguisher has the only drawback that it leaves residue on the equipment which requires cleaning after their use.

Using DCP Fire Extinguisher:

Operating a DCP extinguisher is easy. There is a PASS rule on which it is easily operated.

1- Pull the pin off the handle.

2- Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

3- Squeeze the lever gradually.

4- Sweep sideways.
